Today at Uniquely Moi Books, we have Mike Mauthor, author of House Trap! Mike is here to talk about a very interesting topic that I just love! Let's welcome him here today! Now, on with the good stuff!

Quotes that inspire me as an author and create such novella as House Trap
“Writing well means never having to say, 'I guess you had to be there.”- Jef Mallett
First and foremost I like to identify myself as a storyteller more so than an author.  I loved to create stories when I was little (in my head) and back then I thought everyone has this ability. I wrote at times but I wasn’t really a compulsive writer—still not but I try to be.  This post is basely to inform you about my writing experience thus far. What get me through my writing and defeat an ever-present enemy call WRITER BLOCK.  So read up and hopefully get a tip or two in the process.
“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club”- Jack London
This quote is always in my head everytime I have no story to write about. The quote reminds me to write each and every day (except Sundays, that’s my break). I don’t ever wait for a story to come to me. Instead the more I write the more an inner story reveals itself to me. I don’t doubt what comes out of it and I go with flow of the story.  Editing and Reediting comes later so I never worry about it at the beginning stage.
Writing well means never having to say, 'I guess you had to be there.'- Jef Mallett
This quote I take to heart each and every time I write a story. I attempt to put my reader into the character’s situation. I always attempt to transport my readers into the world I created. I make sure that the characters, the world I created and their situations would be clearly understood by the reader. To create such an experience for my readers I have to use sharper sentences and get to the point. Active verbs make the story come alive and don’t dull up your story.  I try not to write flowery sentences. These are the rules I followed when I wrote my first YA thriller/suspense novella entitled House Trap.  With every stroke from my keyboard I wrote what the character felt, thought and reasoned on each problem that came her way. It’s essential to have this ability as an author, without taking your reader to the journey you created, you’re simply saying and I quote from Jef Mallett, “I guess you had to be there.”  It’s never good to distance your reader from their character’s experience. It would only make their read boring.
I hope my little chat in my writing experience has been worthwhile to you. These quotes have helped me thus far in my writing and I know there are more quotes out there that would help me in the future. Maybe these quotes can jumpstart your way into writing an amazing novel. Not to say that the road is smooth. There are bumps on that road and they are called WRITER’S BLOCK.  Here is an advice from an author that helped me deal it.
With two books a year to complete, I don't have time for writer's block. But more seriously, when a story begins to bog down and I feel blocked, something is intrinsically wrong with the scene or character or point of view I'm working on. Sometimes I have to backtrack and search for where the story had gone astray and edit things back into proper alignment. Once I correct that error, the story flows with more vigor again and we're off and running.  James Rollins
So I never, ever let writer’s block hinder me from writing. I stuck to my story till I saw its completion in front of me and trust me; it’s the best feeling in the world when you complete a story.
Thank you for your time and I hope your writing journey goes well. Now I’m currently writing the sequel to House Trap. Sequels aren’t easy to write but that’s another blog post on its own so I wouldn’t discuss it here. Those quotes are like my foundation I work with when I write any story.  I hope you read the excerpt of House Trap to see what I mean and check it out at Amazon as well. Last but least I like to thank Uniquely Moi Books blog for being so welcoming. I hope everyone is having a great new year so far.
