Beautiful Creatures dances on the edges of dark and divine. Lovely, yet so peculiar. When you first get introduced to the town of Gatlin, everything seems fine and normal. Everything is perfect. A very quaint little town. Everyone knows everyone and all are friendly....Until the new girl arrives. There hasn't been a new kid at school since? That remains a mystery because it just doesn't happen. Therefore, she is an outcast.
Is it Ethan's kind heart that can't help but reach out to Lena? Everyone who is anyone can't fathom the idea of Ethan talking to her, yet he does. He can't help it. There is just something about her that draws him in. What people don't know is that Lena doesn't even know the truth about herself. Living on a plantation with her uncle Macon that everyone fears and that is apparently indestructible, she struggles with what's going on inside of her.
I can't help but feel sorrow for Lena, as she can't seem to find answers from anyone who knows them. Her uncle Macon refuses to help. Even Amma, Ethan's grandma knew something about what was happening in her. Things where changing and by her sixteenth birthday, her fate would be chosen. She doesn't get to choose it. She has come from a line of Caster's and a curse has been set on them. The only help she gets is through Ethan and that is from his two aunt's, not knowing how they even help, with all their bantering they do. I most enjoy the rants and humorous conversations they share. Things get worse when cousin Ridley shows up. A devil in disguise is what she is. The nights are getting closer, and it's almost time. Will she turn dark with the shadows or go light by the day? Unfortunately, things come at a price.

ooh..your review has piqued my interest..adding to my list!!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to re-read this one (and then the others). It's been a while but I did like the story behind it.
ReplyDeleteI also have to re-read. I have read one and two but I think if I try to read 3 without looking at the others ones again I wont enjoy it as much :( However what I do remember I seriously enjoyed!!
ReplyDeleteGreat Review :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this book and the rest of the series so far.
Glad to see you liked it. The series only improves after this. The newest, BEAUTIFUL CHAOS is by far my favorite. Anyway, great review! I understand exactly what you mean about feeling sorrow for Lena. I don't see why people can't just tell her things and let her make her own decisions!
ReplyDeleteI love this one and think it's a fab series! I'm also really looking forward to the film - such a stunning cast.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize they were making this into a movie! I read it when it first came out, but even though I liked it alot, I never continued the series. I guess I should, since it seems well liked...:)
ReplyDeleteI want to watch the movie! I need to buy this book first, though.
